The
Nordic Association for Prevention of Child Abuse and Neglect (NASPCAN) is
a child abuse and neglect prevention organization that was established at
a Nordic conference in Copenhagen, Denmark in 1998. NASPCAN is operating
in all Nordic countries is registered in Sweden as a non-profit
organization (Registration Certificate attached to the application).
Members of NASPCAN are - professionals from all Nordic countries. The
member group is made up of professionals such as lawyers, medical doctors,
police officers, psychologists, researchers, social workers, sociologists,
and teachers. Membership of the organization is open to all professionals
committed to preventing child abuse and neglect and the UN Declaration on
the rights of the child. The aim of NASPCAN is to afford members the
opportunity to share experiences, to update knowledge as well as stimulate
the exchange of knowledge. The group organizes international congresses,
national and other local training events that attract participants from
the Nordic countries. NASPCAN also publishes a newsletter once or twice a
year and has recently opened its web-site (www.NFBO.com). Some of the
activities embarked upon by NASPCAN include a congress in Linköping,
Sweden, 2000, a congress in Oslo, Norway, 2002, a congress in Turku,
Finland, 2004, and three seminars in September 2000 in Oslo, Copenhagen,
and Stockholm. The NASPCAN board is made up of eleven ordinary members and
eleven deputy members - 22 members with each country represented by two
representatives. The board members are elected for a term of four years.
